“For colored girls who consider not reading anymore because all the protagonists are straight white men and you've had enuf.”

For Colored Girls Book Club

In organizing this book club, Gizelle Fletcher holds space for black women to discuss texts that reflect their lives, their stories, and their legacies. In working with Gizelle, IVB hosts FCG to meet every fourth Tuesday of the month from 7-8:30 PM. We also co-organize another event called a “Borrowed Mic” where we encourage attendees to share words that inspire them rather than work they’ve written themselves. This opens the night up to anyone regardless of writing ability, it also creates an environment of sharing—something we’re very keen on at the shop.
